It is the selfless nature of Reiki that allows it to treat others, and this is why many take up the call in learning Reiki. Some say that this was built into the natural healing technique by the Master himself, Usui, because he wanted to create an art form where people could master over and use on themselves. Not a lot of these sort of techniques and methods that you find out there actually allow a person from the street to quickly learn the art and practice on themselves. Is it the fact that Reiki stems from a natural human instinct to touch a part of the body that is in pain, and not remove the hand till the discomfort recedes. This could be the reason why Reiki is so popular. This is because it comes so naturally to us.

Reiki was borne from the ideals and inspired from Buddhism (which explains the focus of Reiki treatment for others), and if you read its history and its inception, it is quite easy to see why. Even its belief in Chakras and energy meridians stem from traditions that are far older than Reiki itself. In fact, we can trace its roots to thousands of years ago within the Chinese empire where many healers used the term CHI to describe the life force energy that is so important to our survival and binds us all together in the world that we live in.

Now there are many things to note when you are embarking on a Reiki treatment therapy session and you have a patient in front of you. The first thing you need to do is to say a small prayer and cleanse all the negative emotions from your body. This is important because you need to set your ego aside during a therapy class. Egoism and other negative energies will block your ability to attune yourself to the energies of life force, and use them to heal people. The prayer also sets the tone of the session, and you will ask the that the patient be attuned to the flow of Reiki and you give thanks to the source of Reiki. One of the common things that you need to do is to move your hands so that your thumbs touch the third eye position, this is the place that is between your eye brows. You then invoke Reiki again, and you ask the source how this session should play out so that the patient can benefit the most. You should be attuned to your own life force, and this will also guide you through the process of treating.

When you are doing this, you can enhance the experience with the use of a Japanese method called Reiji-HO, which in essence uses symbols to create a more attunement environment and allows you to use the energies to a greater degree. You should be using Reiji-ho at the start of the session, combined with many hands positions such as the self-healing hands position if you are treating yourself, to maximise its effect. These are some of the elements that you should be aware of when you are conducting a Reiki treatment session with a patient.
