Mantras are a key component of the mystery of Reiki healing. Like any sort of natural healing techniques that deal with spiritual energy and attunement, there must be some method of delivery and ‘vehicles’ in which the energy is kept and transferred from the practitioner to the patient. If you have heard of the term ‘mantras’ before, than you would be right. They are quite common in Taoism and Buddhism, and this is no mystery as the original teacher of Reiki was a student of Buddha himself. Many of the principals and early musings of Reiki were founded when he was undergoing meditation, fasting and a state of trance.

Besides the mantras, there are a number of symbols and chakras that you must also be aware of when looking to learn about Reiki healing. Combined with breathing techniques you should know about, they are the staples of any Reiki therapy session. Of course, these will be covered in other areas and books of learning, but today, we are going to focus on mantras and how they work.  The word mantra in Japan is Jumon, and essentially they are considered to be words that carry spirit. In a sense, they are powerful delivery systems in which energies can cling to and be delivered to the patient.  Not unlike the will and the word in some fantasy sorcery, these are real enunciations which carry tangible power, and it takes practice for one to master the art of using these mantras during a Reiki healing session.

The very origin of the use of these Mantras is to aid in spiritual healing of the body, the mind and the soul. Mantras itself, as explained in the first paragraph, is relief and discipline. In fact, if we look at the history of natural healing, we realise that there have been many civilizations through the ages which use the very same method of delivery to help heal or change the course of personal attunement with universal energy. There is also the mantra of self attunement, a very different introspective method where we attain a sense of balance and peace with the energies that flow within us. The mantra of healing is there to help us change the energy form into a tool to recognise blockages within the human body, use the spirit to remove these interruptions and aid the human body to regain the well-being and balance that is so important to self-healing.
