Reiki attunement with the spiritual and universal energies means attaining a state of focus and calm that allows you to be one with these energies – it comes with having a deeper understanding of Reiki Training. This is one of the first few lessons that the masters of Reiki taught their students when it comes to healing and attuning the human body with these energies. If we were to look at the original texts that come from the Japan, it looked at the important facets of the eye and the breath. One to see with and one to focus with. This does not mean that the eye and the breath are just tools for you to attune to energy – in fact, the original Master Dr Usui was known to treat people with his eyes and his breath just as well as with his hands.
The breathing method is called Koki-Ho, and essentially it uses the power of the breath to attain a state of focus, channel the energies needed (also known as mastering Reiki and Self-Learning) and by breathing out, treat a specific area of the body. One thing you might need to know about is the Tanden power point which is at the navel. This is where the breath is built up and the power of Reiki is directed from. Both using symbols and simply using Reiki, breathe vigorously out to the affected area – doing this several times if need be. It is said that breathing is one of the more powerful ways to change the energy flows within the body.
Now, we are going to look at the various methods of breathing that is available to Reiki. The first one is the short breath. This is the most common form because it is a form of breathing that comes natural to us. Human beings always breathe in low, shallow bursts, and we will use this natural technique to perform Reiki. Breathe through the nose and the top part of your lungs, after which you quickly exhale. In Reiki, inhaling means that you are attuning yourself to the universal energies and breathing out means expelling all the negative energies within the body. Breathing should be full and your belly should begin to expand when inhaling. This is important. Form and method are key to the success of delivering the energies needed to start the healing process.
As probably mentioned before in other articles, we need to be able to imagine our breath as light. When inhaling, you should imagine that your entire being and soul is being filled with a universal light, and you have the power to guide and move this light to anywhere you wish to within the body. Once you have mastery over this light within you, then you need to be able to breathe the light out, flowing in and through you, and towards the person that you want to heal. Gaining expertise in this is going to be hard, and many Reiki trainers believe that to attain real control over Reiki, breathing techniques are the first things to master – a step to go on before understanding all three stages to Reiki mastery.
