Reiki In The WestReiki in the West is a much respected form of healing and the true practitioners of the art form are people who only have the highest respect for the position of modern and Western medicine. Make no mistake, there is no attempt for this form of healing to usurp of even disparage modern healthcare- in fact, those who do practice this technique often laud its benefits when paired with already established methods of treatment. It is this assimilation that has made it such a success in the West today, standing side by side in many healthcare institutions, clinics and hospitals in the US and the UK. It has come a long way from the shores of Japan, the brainchild of master Usui who first invented this form of healing when he was practicing the meditative art forms of Buddhism.  With modern day science and understanding, we can clear up the mystery of Reiki and its impacts.

There is no one way for us to describe how this phenomenal natural form of healing works and how it has made such an impact on the lives of literally thousands of people all over the world, but we are here today to clear up the mysteries of what is Reiki and how it can help you.  If we look at it simply, Reiki is a very delicate and straight forward method of alternative medicine that has been around for at least 200 years and we know for a fact that Reiki works.

Originally from Japan, it introduces the idea of spiritual energy and the power of touch as the main resources in which a person uses to help someone who is in a state of distress, whether it is in the mind, the soul or the body. In short, Reiki uses universal energy (as many Practitioners of Reiki will agree today) that is all around us and within us as a weapon against pain and a way to promote harmony and balance within the human body, changing the state of flux that happens when we do experience pain and stopping any interruption to the natural flow of spiritual energy within us to promote self-healing.

A typical session of Reiki would first start with the connection between the practitioner and the patient. One of the most important things about the success of such a session is that there should be a mental bridge connecting both parties, and there should be a bond of mutual trust and understanding that should exist for the therapy to succeed.

Now there is a subtle difference between the ideals of Japanese traditional Reiki and its Western counterpart in the truth that the latter is much more methodical and less instinctive than its parent. There is a process of prognosis and diagnosis and careful hand placements based on the type of ailments that the patient is suffering from. Therapy sessions typically last anywhere between 30 mins to 2 hours, depending on the extent of the ailment. However, one would be careful to note that there is no set time in such sessions, and it really depends on the comfort level of both parties and the type of treatments that need to be given out.  How Reiki works is through promotion of balance and harmony within the human body.
